We are a non-profit organization that aims to understand the biology of new and emerging crops with industrial and medical value such as Cannabis and educate the public about the scientific findings. In collaboration with the Cannabis Genomic Research Initiative (CGRI), we intend to support the farming and medical communities by enhancing the cultivation of these crops in a variety of environments for their use in medicine and industry.
Despite the long history that Cannabis has with humans and its numerous medicinal properties, many basic biological questions remain unknown. Even in 2016, with marijuana regulations being repealed more and more, it is still surprisingly difficult to get federal funding for genetic and agricultural research of the plant. A donation to the Agricultural Genomics Foundation (AGF) will allow CGRI scientists to create a genetic map of the Cannabis genome, something that is essential to understanding the plant at the most basic biological level. The $100,000 goal will enable us to create this genetic map and publish the results so that all breeders, growers, and company owners can easily identify traits of interest in the plants, understand the genetics underlying these traits, and decide which plants to cross to reach desired combinations.
